For Dawna, it began with a diagnosis she never expected.

When the Real Battle Begins

Before joining Clarke Fitness, Dawna describes herself as being physically and mentally very low.

A few years earlier, she had received an unwanted diagnosis. Through treatments, hospital visits, and eventually ringing the bell, she was surrounded by incredible support from friends and family.

She will always be grateful for that support — and for the strength that carried her through.

But as many people know, finishing treatment isn’t the end.

Sometimes, that’s when the real battle begins.

After walking out of the hospital, grateful and relieved, Dawna was left trying to rebuild — not just physically, but emotionally too.

Then came another turning point.


The Moment She Knew Something Had to Change.

It was just after Covid. Her son had moved home from Liverpool for a few years, which brought comfort and company during a difficult period.

When he announced he was moving back “over the pond,” Dawna felt it deeply.

She knew she hadn’t been in a great place.
She knew life would continue to throw curve balls.


And she knew there was no magic wand coming to fix it.

That was her turning point.

💪 Strength in Support

She had been watching the Clarke Fitness Facebook page for a while. The idea of training with other people — guided by a coach, supported by a group — appealed to her.

It felt less intimidating.


Less lonely.
More achievable.

So she took the step.

From the very beginning, Dawna says the training and support she has received have been second to none.

No matter which coach is leading the session, someone is always looking out for you.

Clarke Fitness quickly became part of her life.

“The craic is mighty,” she says. “We’re all in it together as a team.”

There are classes in the mornings and evenings, making it easy to fit into daily life. The workouts are always varied, always different — and the time flies.

But more than that, it’s the feeling of belonging.

The Results: More Than Just Weight Loss

Over the course of 1 year and 10 months, Dawna has lost over two and a half stone.

And she’s honest about something many people are afraid to admit:

There were times her diet was good.
There were times it wasn’t great.
And there were times it was terrible.

But she kept going.

Physically, she feels brilliant.

Mentally, she feels stronger and more positive

than she has in years.

Her mental health has improved dramatically — and that, she says, is priceless.

Being able to perform a dumbbell pull-through — despite ongoing issues with her left leg and ankle. It didn’t happen overnight. It took patience, consistency and support.

But now she can do it.
